Breaking Brick Mountains 2026 Event Guide
Quick Answer
Breaking Brick Mountains is Final Fantasy XIV’s Dragon Quest X crossover, back for a 2026 rerun. You chase down a pair of giant golem FATEs, turn the quest in, and shop the event vendor. The only new item this year is the Dragon Quest X Framer’s Kit, so for veterans this is mostly a quick vendor trip. New players get the most out of it, since the Thug’s Mug, Wind-up Brickman, and King Slime Crown are all here too.
- Event window: June 25, 2026 at 1:00 a.m. PDT to July 13, 2026 at 7:59 a.m. PDT
- How to start: Speak with Havak Alvak of the Mythril Eye in Ul’dah - Steps of Nald (X:12.1, Y:8.2)
- Worth it for: The new Dragon Quest X Framer’s Kit (1,282 gil). Everything else is returning.
What Is Breaking Brick Mountains
This is the Dragon Quest X collaboration event, where gargantuan golems from the Dragon Quest series turn up in Eorzea and someone has to go sort them out. That someone is you. It is a short, friendly seasonal event built around two back-to-back FATEs, not a raid or a long questline, so you can knock it out in a single sitting.
It does not come around often. Counting this rerun, the event has run six times: 2014, 2017, 2020, 2021, 2024, and now 2026. There is no set schedule, so if there is something here you want, it is worth grabbing while it is up rather than waiting on the next one.
How to Unlock
- Have a Disciple of War or Magic class equipped so you can tag the event FATEs. There is no MSQ or high level gate, the FATEs sit in low-level A Realm Reborn zones.
- Head to Ul’dah - Steps of Nald and speak with Havak Alvak of the Mythril Eye at (X:12.1, Y:8.2), directly across from the Adventurers’ Guild.
- Accept the quest to investigate the strange golems appearing across the realm.
Walkthrough
- Pick up the quest from Havak Alvak in Ul’dah - Steps of Nald (X:12.1, Y:8.2).
- Travel to one of the FATE spawn zones (listed below) and complete the two event FATEs, which spawn one right after the other in the same spot:
- Brick by Stone Brick
- Brick by Gold Brick
- Return to Ul’dah - Steps of Nald and speak with the Burly Businessman (X:8.2, Y:12.4) to finish the quest. This awards the Thug’s Mug and the Wind-up Brickman minion.
- Visit the vendor Toughie (X:8, Y:12), stationed near the Thaumaturges’ Guild aetheryte, to buy the King Slime Crown and the new Dragon Quest X Framer’s Kit.
FATE Locations
The two FATEs can appear at any one of these five sites. You do not need to camp a single spot, if one is quiet, rotate to another.
| Zone | Area | Coordinates |
|---|---|---|
| Central Thanalan | Sil’dih Excavation Site | X:18.0, Y:23.5 |
| Lower La Noscea | Blind Iron Mines | X:27.0, Y:17.3 |
| Upper La Noscea | Camp Bronze Lake | X:34.1, Y:24.1 |
| Central Shroud | Bentbranch Meadows | X:23.6, Y:23.9 |
| North Shroud | Finders’ Bluff | X:15.8, Y:31.0 |
Rewards
Players search specifically for “what is new this year,” so here is the clean split. Only the Framer’s Kit is new for 2026. The Thug’s Mug and Wind-up Brickman come free with the quest. The King Slime Crown and Framer’s Kit are bought from Toughie.
| Reward | New in 2026 or Returning | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thug’s Mug | Returning | Free (quest reward) | Head glamour, awarded on completing the quest |
| Wind-up Brickman | Returning | Free (quest reward) | Minion, awarded alongside the Thug’s Mug |
| King Slime Crown | Returning (added 2017) | 57 gil | Bought from Toughie, the jiggly slime hat, wearable by all races |
| Dragon Quest X Framer’s Kit | New | 1,282 gil | Bought from Toughie, an adventurer plate design with Dragon Quest flair |
Tips and Common Snags
Make sure you have a battle class equipped before you head out, the FATEs will not give you credit otherwise. On launch day the busiest FATE zone is your friend, more players means faster clears and easy credit, so pick the location with a crowd rather than soloing a quiet one. If you finished Breaking Brick Mountains in a past year, you do not need to redo the quest to shop, just visit Toughie for anything you are missing. And if you left the quest sitting in your Journal from an earlier run, check it, you can often continue from where you stopped.
Seasonal Event Replay
If you have already completed the event before and just want to see the story again, speak with Havak Alvak to use the Seasonal Event Replay feature. Replaying does not grant rewards, and your Journal will still show the quests as complete. If your only goal is the 2026 Framer’s Kit, skip the replay and go straight to Toughie.
Wrap-Up
You started at Havak Alvak in Ul’dah, cleared the Brick by Stone Brick and Brick by Gold Brick FATEs, turned in for the Thug’s Mug and Wind-up Brickman, and shopped Toughie for the King Slime Crown and the new Dragon Quest X Framer’s Kit. It is a short one, but the Framer’s Kit will not be back for a while, so it is worth the half hour before the event closes on July 13.
