Getting Started With FFXIV Relics
A beginner-friendly path for choosing your first FFXIV relic weapon or tool.
Relic weapons are long-form progression projects. They are usually optional for power, but excellent for glamour, collection goals, and having something steady to work on between patches.
Pick A Goal First
Before choosing a relic, decide why you want one:
- For a fast first clear, start with Manderville weapons.
- For classic glamour and story, look at Zodiac or Anima weapons.
- For a structured crafting project, start Splendorous or Lodestar tools.
- For a completionist project, pick one combat job and finish a full line before branching out.
Beginner Path
- Read Starting Relic Weapons to compare the main relic lines.
- Check Relic Time Estimates so the project fits your schedule.
- Open the Relic Tracker and add only the jobs you actually plan to work on.
- Farm tomestones in batches using the tomestone farming guide.
- Finish one stage at a time before adding another weapon.
Common Mistakes
Do not start every weapon at once unless you enjoy spreadsheet mode. Do not spend tomestones before checking the exact stage requirement. Do not assume older relics are faster just because the content is unsynced.
A good relic project should feel like a steady ritual, not homework. Start small, track what matters, and let the glow arrive when it arrives.
